The figure of Pietro Tedeschi (Pesaro 1744 – Rome 1812), painter and engraver of neoclassic inspiration, has assumed considerable importance over time, especially in the Italian artistic framework, for having painted numerous important works destined for churches and some noble palaces of the present day. Marche, Romagna and the Lazio area.

As for Macerata, it should be remembered that together with two other colleagues and pupils of the Pesaro canon G.A. Lazzarini, worked for almost the entire year 1775 on the decorations of the Compagnoni Marefoschi palace and subsequently sent three canvases to the city: for the altar of the private chapel of the same Marefoschi, for the cathedral and finally for the extra moenia church of S. Cross. Other works by Tedeschi are also present in the surroundings of the then administrative capital of the Marca: in Treia, in Potenza Picena, home of the Marefoschi, and in Civitanova.

In May 2017, a historical conference on the artistic profile of the Pesaro artist was held in the city of Pesaro and the proceedings were published in the autumn of 2020.
