The museum
The museum has been housed, since June 1993, in the basement of Palazzo Rossini Lucangeli, a historic building whose construction was begun in 1570 at the behest of Captain Felice Rossini.
The institute’s activity dates back to 1973, the year in which Romano Dezi, curator of the museum, combined his passionate paleontological research activity with a series of exhibitions and interventions at the schools of the capital.
Since 1993, the artifacts collected, purchased or received as a gift during the curator’s 35 years of activity, are presented in the 200 square meters of public display, largely made up of students, who visit the museum every year.
The exhibition is divided into five sections: paleontology, mineralogy, vertebrates, malacology, entomology arranged on two floors. The vertebrate section includes the exceptional Bernocchi collection, with trophies belonging to mammals from all over the world, capable of telling stories of the extinction and recovery of animal species.
