The exhibition “Carlo Crivelli. The marvellous relations” emerged from an ideal relationship with the Marche region, which still preserves important memories of the art of Crivelli and his followers. It also focuses on the so-called “polyptych culture” i.e., the tradition of altar paintings consisting of several panels, enclosed by sumptuous carved and gilded frames, which became popular from the 14th century by artists from Venice throughout the Adriatic.
Consequently, to accompany and enrich the exhibition, there is an itinerary through the places in the province of Macerata that hold works by Carlo, his followers and proponents (his brother Vittore, his pupil Pietro Alemanno, Antonio Solario) along with other important evidence of the “Venetian-style” polyptych that the Crivellis helped to introduce and keep in vogue until the end of the 15th century.
